Location, Location, Location...and Cake!

As my mind starts to turn to all things festive and before I become completely covered in a dusting of cinnamon, I thought that I would end the 2018 wedding season with a round-up of all the beautiful venues I’ve been lucky enough to work with over the past 12 months. It is always so lovely to see my cakes take their place in amongst the decorations, flowers and table settings that represent the special couple. It is so exciting for me when a couple choose to meet with me and then place an order for their wedding cake! I totally understand that they are placing trust in me that I will create a cake that will not only be delicious but will also work with the style and theme of the most important day of their lives. As cakes go, it is probably the most important one you’ll ever buy!

In many ways setting up the cake and doing the final touches is my favourite part as I can see the months of planning, testing and baking come together. Although the venues I have worked at this year have all been very different, what has struck me is how each couple manage to make the space personal to them, which is surely the most important thing, right? That a wedding is all about the couple, celebrating with friends and family. Love and Happiness and Cake. No matter what style of venue you are looking for we can create the perfect cake to match!

Thomas Morton Hall, Leith, Edinburgh

A beautiful, classic venue right in the heart of Leith this is the perfect space for a big celebration. There is a stage and plenty of space for dancing! The neutral colours also make it a great blank canvas for your personalised, creative touch. The hall is part of Leith Theatre Trust, which is a registered charity, and so all proceeds from hires contribute to the redevelopment of the entire complex, into a multi-purpose art, education and community venue. It is a lovely thought that the venue hire for your special day will continue to contribute to a local Edinburgh community and help keep this wonderful , historic venue alive.

Kinkell Byre, St. Andrews

If you are looking for a barn conversion with sea views then Kinkell Byre is perfect. This rustic blank canvas fills with the glow of candle light as the sun sets. I was there setting up a wedding on Hogmanay – what a fabulous way to bring in the New Year! Such a festive venue which was filled with foliage, rustic props, music and laughter. It is yours to be creative with and finally put into practice all the ideas saved in your Pinterest boards!

Hotel du Vin, Edinburgh

This venue is ideally located in the city centre, so it is perfect if you have guests travelling to the city for your big day. The hotel has a classic, yet relaxed vibe, and can cater for all sizes of weddings from small and intimate to gatherings that require exclusive use of the whole hotel.

Traquair House, Innerleithen

If you are looking for a more rural, country house location then Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, which is steeped in history, could be the perfect spot. Just an hours drive from Edinburgh and you will find yourself in this beautiful country estate with the option to have your wedding inside this beautiful house or outside in the grounds.

Castleton Farm, North Berwick

This marquee venue has spectacular views out over Bass Rock, Tantallon Castle and the rugged East Lothian coast. When I was there in July it was a truly beautiful day and the sun was shining down on the calm blue sea – is there any better place to toast a newly wed couple?
